Restaurant Operators Should Be Wary of Health Care Reform
|
|
12/14/2009
"As I'm writing this article, the U.S. Senate is in the throes of debating a massive health care overhaul bill designed to provide medical
coverage to nearly every legal resident of the United States. With 13 million employees, the U.S. restaurant industry is one of the
country's largest private-sector employers and has much at stake with health care reform legislation. The effects that the proposed
legislation will have on this single industry alone will have severe-and permanent-negative implications for our entire economy..."

Limited Medical Plans: Here and Now. Why and How?
|
|
12/14/2009
"Although Limited medical plans have been in existence for over 25 years, they are just now starting to realize a significant increase in
popularity. There are many factors driving this trend, most of which are a result of economic cutbacks. As employers continue to be
forced to reduce overall corporate spending, health benefits are diminishing and employees are finding themselves unable to provide
health insurance for themselves and their families. Current estimates indicate that roughly 46 million Americans – approximately 15 % of the US
population – do not have health insurance. By establishing fixed maximum payouts for various medical services (doctor’s visits, hospital stays,
diagnostic testing, prescription drugs, etc.), limited medical plans are offering a viable alternative to employees who are not eligible for their
employer’s traditional major medical plans."

Designing the Best Plan at the Most Affordable Price
|
|
12/14/2009
"One of the most time consuming tasks for HR personnel with a diverse base of employees is analyzing dozens of health insurance
options in an effort to develop customized plans that meet everyone’s needs. This is particularly tricky within the staffing industry
where the diversification of employees is wide. Many work 13-week stints at relatively low hourly wages, while others are under longterm
employment contracts earning very high wages. With more and more companies eliminating group health insurance from their benefit
plans, those that do provide a plan have a distinct competitive advantage of securing the best workers."

COBRA Subsidy Not a Burden for Many Limited Medical Plan Providers
|
|
12/14/2009
"The federal subsidy of COBRA health insurance for laid-off workers contained in the economic stimulus bill earlier this year has been
generating a lot of reaction from employers. COBRA —short for the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act -- is the federal
program that allows workers to hold on to their health insurance benefits after a job loss. The new law subsidizes 65 percent of COBRA
premiums for some workers for up to nine months. But implementation of the subsidy has generated as much confusion and frustration for
employers as it has relief."
